ECE Assistant Teacher
Position Description

Status: Part-Time – Non-Exempt
(25-30 hours)


Reports to: Director, Early Childhood Education Program

Summary:  As a part of our Early Childhood Education Program staff, the Assistant Teacher will help the children learn through play and hands-on experiences. Christamore House provides a foundation for learning both socially and academically. We are a Paths to Quality Level 3 and a On My Way to Pre-K early childhood program.


  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing a variety of age-appropriate activities daily.
  • Provide a safe learning environment which will allow enrolled children to learn how to interact with others and provide for their daily needs.
  • Maintain a quality classroom environment that is clean, organized and well equipped with a wide variety of safe, age-appropriate equipment and materials.
  • Keep certifications current. (i.e. CPR/First Aid etc.) Participate in offered trainings to increase knowledge in early childhood development.
  • Assist in the implementation of maintaining a rich, child-focused, developmentally appropriate environment and curriculum for the children in the ECE Program.
  • Plan and implement activities which are designed to develop a range of social, cognitive, and/or motor skills for preschool aged children.
  • Assist in gathering and maintaining data respective to each child which will facilitate the completion of three (3) summary reports per year. Data is to be gathered by way of anecdotal records, developmental checklists and portfolios.
  • Ensure the safety of all children enrolled in the ECE program.
  • Work and communicate with staff, parents and students in a manner that facilitates and maintains positive working relationships with all involved parties.
  • Behave, speak and dress in a professional manner.
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed.

The applicant for the ECE Part Time Assistant Teacher position must have at least an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. A CDA Certification with three (3) years of documented work experience in an early childhood program is acceptable in lieu of an Associate’s degree. The qualified candidate will be dependable, reliable, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and will be eager to learn. The applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ideal applicant will have experience related to serving in an organization that has previously attained at least Level 3 in the Paths to Quality Accreditation Program.

Performance Standards:
The ECE Part Time Assistant Teacher must adhere to all policies of the ECE and all state regulations. The Assistant Teacher must assist the Lead Teacher as needed to ensure the ECE operates in an excellent manner. Daily communication with the Lead Teacher of the ECE is paramount to the success of the Assistant Teacher. Most of all, the applicant must have respect and a love for children.
